CO2 Fractional Resurfacing

C02 is a Carbon Dioxide Laser that only treats a fraction of the skin at a time.  When the C02 beam of light comes in contact with the epidermis it heats and vaporizes the skin tissue, instantly removing the superficial layers of the skin, scars and wrinkles while smoothing out the surface of the skin. Skin remodelling occurs with new skin and collagen growth.

Restore Health center is proud to offer our patients the CO2RE Carbon Dioxide Laser System, the latest advancement in CO2 laser resurfacing for aging skin. This laser is one of only three CO2 laser currently available that uses ‘super/ultra-pulsed’ technology, which means that heat is applied faster to the skin making it safer than other CO2 devices and reducing recovery time.

This laser technology is so precise that treatments can be tailored according to the nature and extent of skin damage, skin type and individual requirements for recovery time.

Yes.  To minimize the potential for any negative reactions to the treatment, a personal interview and clinical examination will be conducted to obtain relevant facts about your medical and dermatologic history, and any medications you are currently taking or have taken in the past. If you are prone to cold sores, you need to ask your doctor for an antiviral prescription before the treatment. A short course of antibiotics may also be recommend to minimize the risk of infection
You can expect some moderate discomfort during the treatment.  To minimize the discomfort we apply topical anesthetic to the area an hour before the treatment and cool the area throughout the procedure. Oral pain relievers may also be prescribed by the Doctor prior to the treatment.
The skin will appear red and feel like a bad sunburn immediately after the treatment, which will then change to a bronze look after 2-3 days. The area treated usually only stings for a few hours post the treatment. You may cool the skin down with ice wrapped in a clean cloth.  The area will be swollen for a few days. This is normal. You can expect peeling of dead skin – this is a natural exfoliation process and may last up to 7-10 days. Patients experience itchiness typical to sunburn.
Typically the social downtime is 5-7 days.  The appearance of the skin is not really socially acceptable during the first 3 days. Patients will not be able to go to work within the first 3-5 days.  No make-up may be applied for the first 5 days after the treatment.
Care for your skin after the procedure is crucial.  It is important that you keep out of the sun. Wear a hat or stay indoors during the first 7-10 days. It is important that you wash your hands to avoid infection. Recommended products will be given to you on the day of the treatment. A post-laser balm will need to be applied at least 4 times a day for the first 5-6 days. You may wash your face very gently 48 hrs after treatment with Cetaphil cleansing lotion using your hands and luke warm water. Avoid sponges, face cloths or cotton discs when cleansing.
Results can be seen within a few days after the initial healing phase is complete – around day 5. The texture and tone of the skin will gradually improve leaving your skin looking smoother and tighter. Fine lines, wrinkles and age spots will start to show immediate improvement but results will continue for up to six months with new collagen regeneration that “plumps” up the skin. The results are permanent.
Generally you will see the difference you want after just one treatment.
Results are permanent but the CO2RE doesn’t stop the ageing process but it certainly sets it back a few years!
